Sex Therapy

Sexual health and intimacy are important parts of overall emotional and relational well-being. Many people experience difficulties related to sex or intimacy at some point in life, yet these topics can often feel difficult or uncomfortable to discuss openly. Sex therapy provides a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment to explore concerns related to sexuality, intimacy, desire, arousal, communication, identity, or sexual functioning.

Therapy can also support individuals and partners in developing healthier communication around intimacy, increasing emotional connection, and creating a more fulfilling and authentic sexual relationship with themselves and others. If sex therapy is a service you are interested in exploring, continue reading below to understand how it looks for treatment.

What Does Sex Therapy Look Like?

Sex Therapy usually includes an individual and your therapist having regular meetings or sessions to discuss concerns related to your sexual health, but a loved one may join if clinically necessary. Treatment usually starts with a general Intake Appointment or a "get to know you" meeting where your therapist will inquire about a variety subjects that pertain to who you are holistically. Subjects usually covered in the Intake Appointment are your reason for seeking therapy, your family upbringing, sex-related concerns, relationship/support connections. a short medical history, and what goals you want to accomplish in treatment.

After an Intake Appointment, there will be scheduled routine clinical appointments where the therapist will continue to get to know you, as well as provide interventions and perspectives that work toward your developed goals. Treatment may address concerns such as differences in desire, sexual anxiety, pain during intimacy, difficulty with arousal or orgasm, shame surrounding sexuality, impacts of stress or trauma on intimacy, or navigating relationship and identity changes. You and your therapist will work together to determine how long treatment needs to be based on concerns presented and discovered during the recurrent appointments. A final Termination session will conclude therapeutic work, as determined by the couple and your therapist where you will review goals, discuss progress and celebrate the growth and hard work you have completed!

No matter the length of treatment, our therapists will be present the entire way until you feel accomplished with goals and have the confidence to address future struggles on your own.
