Couples Therapy
Relationships can be one of the most meaningful parts of our lives, but they can also become
sources of stress, disconnection, conflict, or hurt. Couples therapy provides a supportive space
for partners to better understand one another, improve communication, rebuild trust, and
strengthen emotional connection. Some couples seek therapy during periods of crisis while
others want support navigating life transitions, intimacy concerns, parenting stressors, or
recurring communication difficulties.
Couples therapy is not about assigning blame or deciding who is “right.” Instead, therapy
focuses on understanding patterns within the relationship, identifying unmet needs, and helping
both partners feel heard and supported. Our therapists at Authentic Connection can provide the outsider's perspective on what is and is not working for your relationship and will collaborate with you to consider what tools and steps will help your relationship succeed.
What Does Couples Therapy Look Like?
Couples Therapy typically involves the couple and a therapist, in an open discussion format. Treatment usually starts with a general Intake Appointment or a "get to know you" meeting where your therapist will inquire about a variety subjects that pertain to you each member of the relationship, your relationship dynamics, and your past and current circumstances. Subjects usually covered in the Intake Appointment are your reason for seeking therapy, your family upbringing, relationship/support connections. a short medical history, and what goals you want to accomplish in treatment.
After an Intake Appointment, there will be scheduled routine clinical appointments where the therapist will continue to get to know each person, as well as begin helping the relationship towards mutual goals. Appointments can include but are not limited to Treatment may include improving communication skills, learning healthier conflict resolution strategies, rebuilding emotional safety, exploring ways to reconnect as partners, and addressing old or new concerns as they become relevant. The couple and the therapist will work together to determine how long treatment needs to be based on concerns presented and discovered during the recurrent appointments. A final Termination session will conclude therapeutic work, as determined by the couple and your therapist where you will review goals, discuss progress and celebrate the growth and hard work you have completed!
No matter the length of treatment, our therapists will be present the entire way until the relationship feels accomplished with goals and have the confidence to address future struggles on their own.
