Grief and Loss, Stress Management, and Anger Management Expert

Approach to Therapy

I believe knowing your purpose, creating acceptance of what you can and cannot control, and obtaining stability in life can be achieved even when those goals feel so far away. People just lack the knowledge and insight to know how to get them in tough times. That belief is why I enjoy doing my job. I help you achieve more stable emotions, a renewed sense of purpose, and more autonomy over your life by getting to know about who you are beyond your symptoms and what makes it hard for you to get your desired outcomes. We then use that knowledge about you to determine what can or needs to change according to your goals. Lastly, we create personalized methods that will move you closer to those goals and  use the therapy space to practice those skills so you feel confident using them on your own.

Beyond any intervention, what matters most in treatment is you having a space to explore and feel understood. A place where you are allowed to speak freely, challenge yourself at your pace, and have someone with you to lean on or give the extra push when needed. I can and will provide that space to co-regulate with you you so you can leave treatment with a clear purpose, stabilized emotions and thoughts, and feel capable of accepting change openly; you can then self-regulate in a more meaningful and helpful way.

Focus Areas and Treatment Provided

I typically work with individuals from 18 years old to seniors as well as those in higher education/college populations by providing individual therapy. I excel at helping people navigate crippling anxiety, grief and loss, anger management, college/higher education stress, as well as working through trauma. I will use a mix of cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and emotion-focused treatment modalities to help you get the goals you are looking for.

More about me Professionally and Personally

When I’m not at the office I enjoy visiting my family and friends all over the Midwest. My significant other and I enjoy doing food taste tests of the area's best foods (I recommend Butcher's Union steaks and Furniture City Ice Cream!).  I am a bit of a coffee snob and am slowly building my own coffee bar at home. I also enjoy working out in any way from lifting weights to long distance cycling. I thoroughly enjoy movies and film analysis too. My favorite films are the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Inception, and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

My professional background starts from getting my BA in Psychology at DePauw University and my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Valparaiso University. Since graduating and over my 10 years of work, I have had various clinical experiences in private practice, substance use centers, community mental health, and in college counseling centers as well as university career centers. These experiences have helped shaped my humanistic and holistic approach to therapy, while also giving me the tools to provide insights and skills to help many people over the years.

"In order to self-regulate, we must first co-regulate."
