Individual Therapy

Sometimes it can be difficult to have someone in our life who has the ability to listen and hear you, while also providing honest and constructive perspectives on our troublesome situations in life.  Friends and family can be great resources, but can be too biased, simply unaware of our circumstances, or at times might be the problem. Their intentions are inherently good, but can miss the mark or be unwarranted in some cases.

Our therapists at Authentic Connection excel at providing you unique perspectives, as well as offering support and tools to help you achieve your life goals. In Individual therapy, our therapists aim to connect with you as a fellow human being first. They use the therapeutic alliance to help you challenge your fears, learn about yourself in unique ways, and support you with an outsider's perspective to help you find solutions. You are the expert on your life and we hope to foster a collaborative relationship to provide tools and resources to allow you to reclaim your authentic self! See below for an outline on what to expect in individual therapy.

What Does Individual Therapy Look Like?

Individual Therapy typically involves you and a therapist, in an open discussion format. Treatment usually starts with a general Intake Appointment or a "get to know you" meeting where your therapist will inquire about a variety subjects that pertain to you as a person and your past and current circumstances. Subjects usually covered in the Intake Appointment are your reason for seeking therapy, your family upbringing, relationship/support connections. a short medical history, and what goals you want to accomplish in treatment.

After an Intake Appointment, there will be scheduled routine clinical appointments where the therapist will continue to get to know you, as well as begin helping you work towards your goals. Appointments can include but are not limited to learning/practicing skills to manage symptoms, exploring origins of concerns, psychoeducation, and addressing old or new concerns as they become relevant. You and your therapist will work together to determine how long treatment needs to be based on concerns presented and discovered during the recurrent appointments. A final Termination session will conclude therapeutic work, as determined by yourself and your therapist where you will review goals, discuss progress and celebrate the growth and hard work you have completed!

No matter the length of treatment, our therapists will be with you the entire way until you feel you have met your goals and have the confidence to address future struggles on your own.
