Child and Adolescent Therapy

Child and adolescent therapy is designed to address the unique mental health needs of children
and teenagers. It includes several therapeutic approaches, such as client centered talk therapy,
art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and play therapy to help young people cope with
concerns like anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, trauma, and family dynamics.

What Does Child/Adolescent Therapy Look Like?

Child and Adolescent Therapy typically involves the same processes of individual therapy with a extra components, mainly the involvement of parents. First steps involve an Intake Appointment or a "get to know you" meeting where parents/guardians meet the therapist along with the child and or teenager. The therapist will inquire about a variety subjects that pertain to the child regarding past and current struggles from both guardian and the child. Subjects usually covered in the Intake Appointment are the reasons for seeking therapy, family upbringing, relationship/support connections. a short medical history, and what goals are desired.

After an Intake Appointment, there will be scheduled routine clinical appointments where the therapist will meet with the child individually and begin to work toward goals. Appointments can include but are not limited to learning/practicing skills to manage symptoms, exploring origins of concerns, psychoeducation, and addressing old or new concerns as they become relevant. The therapist will also involve parents as needed to ensure clear communication and support from the home along with support in treatment. Therapist, guardian, and child will work together to determine how long treatment needs to be based on concerns presented and discovered during the recurrent appointments. A final Termination session will conclude therapeutic work, where everyone will review goals, discuss progress and celebrate the growth and hard work completed!

No matter the length of treatment, our therapists will be with you during the whole therapy experience  until your child feels ready to move forward with confidence to address concerns on their own and with the support of family.
